COURSE OUTLINE - TOPICS this is the place to start to find an the twelve modules and 55 topics in the
program. You can link to them from here or from TOPICS on the list down the
left side of the page. (go to a printable version in word)
There
are 55 topic areas in the list. Each of these is part of 12 five to
eight hour modules. It is designed with the idea of bringing workers
together to do one topic per week or to do one module of 4-8 topics over 2-3 days every two
to three months.
These are
introduced by an introductory week of training.
This CD has material for different situations. Choose the introduction for
the one you are involved in:
Most topics have a power point, usually with
a practical exercise, and related readings, plus additional resource
material.
READINGS FOR INTRODUCTION:
The course is built around two texts by
Viv Grigg, Companion to the Poor and Cry of the Urban Poor.
These are included on the CD. These are supplemented by other readings.
The chapters for the introduction are:

Topics Set by Trainees: The
topics are set out in a logical teaching sequence, but usually the best teaching responds to the issues that people are asking, so as a trainer you need to choose week by week. There was a brilliant educationalist who worked a lot with the poor in Brazil, called Paulo Freire, who popularised the idea of working from the practical issues of the poor. Jesus, the master trainer knew that.
Build from Trainees Stories: Jesus also used stories. The pattern of teaching these topics is to give a brief introduction to the topic, then get stories from the workers, then integrate what they have learned with information available here from other cities.
Action - Reflection: Jesus also taught that the one who obeys is the one who will know him. These modules are based on action-reflection. Out of the stories of action, come the questions that motivate learning.
Objective of Introduction:
1.
Organizational: To familiarize each worker with the goals, methodology,
measurement of outcomes and personnel in the course
2. Motivational: To motivate with the history of God's works, and vision for
what God can do among the urban poor.
